How to request deletion of your account and personal data and what to expect.
How to request deletion
You can request the deletion of your Cobble account and all associated personal data in two ways:
In-app deletion
Open the Cobble app. Go to Settings > Account > Delete Account. Follow the confirmation steps. Your deletion request will be submitted immediately.
Email request
Email privacy@eatwithcobble.com with the subject "Account Deletion Request" and include the email address associated with your account.
Confirmation
We'll confirm your deletion request by email and send a second confirmation once your data has been fully removed within 30 days.
What gets deleted
Upon a verified deletion request, we will delete the following data within 30 days:
- Your account information (name, email, encrypted password)
- Your profile and preferences (dietary settings, cuisine preferences, household size, measurement settings)
- Your pantry inventory (all ingredient data you added)
- Your recipe interaction data (saves, ratings, cooking history)
- Your shopping lists and meal plan data
- Your usage data and device-linked identifiers held in our systems
What may be retained
Certain data may be retained after your deletion request for the following legally required reasons:
- Financial records: Subscription and transaction records may be retained for up to 7 years as required by UK financial regulations. This data is held by Apple/Google, not by Cobble directly.
- Legal compliance: If we are subject to a legal obligation or ongoing legal proceedings that require us to retain data, we may do so until those obligations are resolved.
- Fraud prevention: Anonymised records of accounts that engaged in fraudulent activity may be retained to prevent future abuse.
- Aggregate analytics: Anonymised, aggregate usage data that cannot be linked back to you may be retained indefinitely as it no longer constitutes personal data.
Identity verification
To protect against unauthorised deletion requests, we may ask you to verify your identity before processing a deletion request. This typically means confirming the email address associated with your account and, in some cases, answering a security question or confirming a detail from your account profile.
We will never ask for your password, payment information, or any sensitive data during the identity verification process.
Processing time
We process all deletion requests within 30 days of receiving a verified request. Complex requests or requests that require legal review may take up to 30 days from the date of identity verification. We will email you to confirm:
- When we receive your request
- When your data has been successfully deleted (or the reason for any delay)
Subscription cancellation
Requesting account deletion does not automatically cancel your App Store or Google Play subscription. You must cancel your subscription separately through your device's subscription management settings to avoid future charges. Deleting your account will not entitle you to a refund of any pre-paid subscription period.
