Frequently asked questions
General
Cobble is a kitchen app for iOS and Android that helps you figure out what to cook based on the ingredients you already have. You scan your fridge and pantry, Cobble identifies what's there, and then shows you recipes you can make filtered by your dietary preferences and the cuisines your household enjoys. It also generates smart shopping lists and includes a step-by-step guided cooking mode.
Cobble is a subscription app. We plan to offer a free trial period at launch so you can explore the app before committing to a subscription. Join the waitlist to be notified about trial offers and launch promotions. Paid plans start at £6.99/month (or £66.99/year) for Cobble Plus.
Cobble is being built for both iOS (iPhone) and Android. We expect to launch on both platforms simultaneously. Join our waitlist to be first to know when the app is available to download in your region.
Absolutely. Scanning is the fastest way to build your ingredient list, but you can add every ingredient manually through search. Type in any ingredient, set a quantity, and it's added to your pantry. You can also combine scanning and manual entry scan what scans well, type in the rest.
Cobble Plus supports up to 2 household members. Cobble Family supports up to 6 members with a shared pantry, shared meal plan, and shared shopping list. Each member gets their own dietary preferences that are respected when Cobble filters recipes for the whole household.
Some features of Cobble including viewing saved recipes and your shopping list are available offline. Scanning, recipe discovery, and syncing with other household members requires an internet connection.
Recipes
Cobble's recipe library is curated by our team and includes dishes from a wide range of cuisines and dietary categories. Recipes are verified before publication and include accurate ingredient lists, preparation steps, and cooking times. We do not rely on user-generated recipes without editorial review.
When you set dietary preferences in your profile (such as vegetarian, gluten-free, or dairy-free), Cobble automatically excludes any recipes that contain ingredients that conflict with those preferences. You can select multiple dietary preferences. Important: always read the full recipe before cooking if you have a serious allergy Cobble is not a medical tool and cannot guarantee recipe accuracy for allergy management.
You select your preferred cuisines in your profile (e.g. Italian, Japanese, Mexican, Indian). Your recipe feed prioritises dishes from those cuisines, though you can always browse the full library. You can update your cuisine preferences any time and the change takes effect immediately.
Yes. Every recipe in Cobble can have its serving count adjusted. Tap the serving size selector on any recipe card or in the recipe detail view and change the number. All ingredient quantities and the corresponding shopping list items update automatically. Your household default serving size is applied when you open any recipe, but you can change it on the fly.
Yes. In your profile settings you can choose between Metric (grams, millilitres, centimetres), Imperial (ounces, fluid ounces, inches), or Auto (which uses the default for your device's locale). This setting applies to all recipe ingredient quantities and shopping list amounts throughout the app.
Surprise Me is a one-tap button that picks a random recipe from the options that match your current pantry inventory and your dietary and cuisine preferences. It's designed for moments when you can't decide what to cook Cobble just picks for you. You can tap it as many times as you like until you find something that appeals.
Shopping
When you add a recipe to your meal plan or tap "Add to shopping list" on any recipe, Cobble checks which ingredients you already have in your pantry and only adds the ingredients you're missing. If you've added multiple recipes, Cobble consolidates the lists and totals quantities so if two recipes both need onions, you'll see one combined onion entry with the total amount you need.
Some recipe ingredients use cooking measurements that don't directly map to a retail unit for example "2 tablespoons of olive oil" rather than "1 bottle of olive oil". In those cases, Cobble shows the cooking quantity (e.g. 2 tbsp) rather than inventing a retail unit. You'll need to judge how much to buy based on what you already have and how much you use that ingredient regularly.
Not at this stage. Your Cobble shopping list is designed to be used in-store or as a reference when shopping online. Supermarket basket integration is something we're exploring for a future update. We'll announce any partnerships or integrations to our waitlist members first.
Yes. You can add items manually to your shopping list, remove any item, or mark items as already purchased. The list stays editable throughout your shop. Marking an item as purchased doesn't automatically add it to your pantry you'll need to scan or add it manually after you get home.
